The dream of a ridiculous man

Creative process & related projects:

The dream of a ridiculous man, beyond being a film, was an opportunity to question the process of film making. It's aim was to confront two ideas of cinema: the traditionnal way of shooting derived from the division of labors, and the improvizational/collaborative way that came to life since the minimization of technical dispositives. The first part of the film was shot in the natural reserve of the Vercors (French Alps) and was mostly staged through improvization and workshops. The second part was shot in the ruins of Valchevriere, a resistance stronghold in WWII, and was staged, storyboarded, and lit according to the tradition of classical cinema.

In order to reach a common way of thinking for the collaborative process, a trans-diciplinary group was formed in Paris over two years. The three short movies that are beneath are exemples of the drafts that were done in order to consider the link of dance, improvisation and film making.
